


pink floyd begin their song, 'us and them' with these lyrics:'us and them, and after all we're only ordinary men/
me, and you, god only knows it's not what we would choose to do.'
william golding's novel, 'lord of the flies' shows that 'we' is a very fractured concept. his story of english schoolboys, (ages somewhere between 6 and 10) stranded on an island, makes us see just how different 'we' can be.
as these beautiful children play out their fears and fantasies, we get a peek at just how many rules are broken in the name of freedom. goodbye to the notion of telling right from wrong.
chosen designated leader, 'ralph' does his best considering he is but a boy, while 'jack' does his worst. this is a stunning and still very frightening film directed by peter brook in 1963.
