i liked this movie so much when i first saw it. i guess i have preferred character driven films since i was a kid. 'a period of adjustment' is a tennessee williams play that was playfully brought to the screen with four super actors.
jane fonda and jim hutton are newlyweds who are both scared stiff. they drop in on jim's friends, played by anthony franciosa and lois nettleton. it's christmas time, all four people are justifiably upset about one thing or another, and petty fights turn into big ones. tears fall and fears loom, yet all the while the pen of tennessee makes sure you see just how funny and touching it all is.
i really like the actress lois nettleton. she did lots of t.v. but this is the only film i know with her in it.
