eli wallach was one of four beloved actors who starred in 'THE MISFITS.' forgive me, five, as the irresistible thelma ritter was in this too. two of the stars died shortly after, another was not long for this earth and thelma, well, how nice that she does not fill us with sadness.
this was the last film for both marilyn monroe and clark gable. montgomery clift's descent was written in stone. it was eli alone who lived to tell the tale in an autobiography.
my favorite thing about this film is the acting because the story is just too unpleasant, full of leers and lust and a total lack of understanding. aside from wishing marilyn peace of mind in every frame you might also wish she'd drag husband playwright, arthur miller, to one of her therapy sessions. her performance was surely interrupted by retakes but her truth onscreen is shattering.
