UN TRAMWAY NOMME DESIR

this was the title when i saw the film in paris. i was jet-lagged and fell asleep before one rip of a sleeve in elia kazans film of tennessee williams' gem of all his plays, 'a streetcar named desire.' as a good little american i was already acquainted with what may be the most satisfying film experience of all time.
the basic premise is very simple: three's a crowd in the lives of four characters who crash through two hours in search of tenderness. the art direction of this beautiful black and white milestone will transport you to the faubourg marigny, a neighborhood that is far less pretty than it sounds. the acting? forget about it.
