based on a play by novelist leo herlihy, 'blue denim's' leads are like two slices of apple pie that are losing all their goodness from sitting unnoticed on the shelf. these kids are very young and already in big trouble. the boy, played by veteran child actor, brandon de wilde, comes home from school to find his dog was put to sleep, which is beyond inconsiderate. carol lynley plays the girl that lives with a dad who is too destroyed by his wife's death years back to really 'see' his daughter. and we're off.
this must have been a very popular movie when it came out in 1959. it is unglamorous and unpretentious. the eternal story of how to deal with teen pregnancy is thoughtfully dealt with in this film where young people seem appropriately much younger than kids their age today. it's a crying shame.
