in 1963 the novel 'the man who fell to earth' by walter tevis was published. it is my favorite book in the world and should i ever meet the director of the 1976 film version, nic roeg, i would kiss both his hands. i could go on forever but instead i will pick just one letter, B, as in brilliant, beauteous, baffling, brave, and bowie.
the images from this film are eternally coiled up in my mind like a pretzel ready to be torn apart and devoured again and again. i live with clips of chocolate chip cookies flying up the the air in slow motion and crashing to the floor, gold wedding bands strung like beads on a bracelet and pawned one by one, an aspirin dissolving in a glass of precious water nervously held by the only man in this world who could convincingly portray a man from another.
the loneliness of every character, david bowie the alien, candy clark the lover, rip torn the scientist, is beyond profound and exquisitely achieved.

Totally agree with you here, Pal! "I think Mr. Neuton has had enough."
