this is the story of an arkansas hobo who jumps at the chance to make a buck by throwing the prejudice of the common man right back in its face. it took place in a time when blue jeans cost 2.50 and not 250. and a guitar was free. the actress patricia neal, literally in the hands of director elia kazan (everyone in this picture has their hands on everyone) stumbles out of bed in the middle of the night in a seedy hotel room and a 3 dollar black slip and it's cooler than a chanel clip directed by lagerfeld.
andy griffith. who knew? patricia neal? sublime. rip torn? uncredited.
1957's 'a face in the crowd' is a huge inspiration.
