when it came time to write about a film starring sidney poitier, i knew i wouldn't be able to stop after just one, so i have brought my three favorites together. among all of sidney poitier's movies, 'in the heat of the night' stands as a true milestone in the history of cinema. the nasty story highlighting ignorance and race intolerance took home five oscars including best actor for rod steiger and best picture.
sidney gives his typically sensitive and solid best in the role of a police officer who knows so much more than every one he is forced to deal with it's not even funny.
every aspect of the movie is tops. the ignorance is important to see. the self respect is a beauty to behold. as an actor sidney poitier is flawless.

great timing for this picture during the late 50's 60's covert bigotry era.
