french actor alain delon was very brave to take on the role of the upper crust dandy baron de charlus in 'swann in love.'
it must have given his countrymen pause though they were sure to agree that he was really good as swann's best friend. gingerly stepping from his sad friend's gorgeous apartment to the music rooms of the aristocracy, he was a link between swann and the world that admired swann's taste in art but could not completely embrace him as he was jewish.
alain delon has had a great career. his personal life is the stuff of bio pics.
