let there be light

in 1895 france experienced another revolution. hailing from the lovely small city of lyon, the lumiere brothers gave birth to cinema. they are responsible for the very first public screening of a film. the showing of their film about factory workers took place in paris, naturally. 'lumiere' translates as 'light.' these geniuses felt their invention had no future. as stanley kowalski would say, 'HA HA HA.'
