patricia gozzi

so very long ago i saw a film on t.v. that i never forgot. for years i have carried around only the 'impression' of it as that is all i remembered. tonight, while preparing a post on patricia gozzi i found it. i almost cannot believe it. patricia is the actress who entranced all who have been fortunate enough to see 'sundays and cybele', one of the few films that broke it's way into my heart for all time. i learned tonight that this other film that has been haunting me is called, 'rapture.'

Hi Pal, from Peter in Australia, who missed seeing you perform in New York recently, and who not only owns the 16mm Cinemascope print of "Sundays and Cybele", but "Rapture" too!! Not on film, sad to say, but at least on DVD. It took me over 20 years to find it and secure it, so quite a wait. And Nipper, last we heard, Patricia Gozzi was living in Paris (although she had lived in the US for quite a while), married with children (a 2nd marriage, I think), and working in an English speaking business, perhaps with her husband, although I don't know where I'm plucking that part from! No pictures of her at all these days. I consider it downright disrespectful of her not to have been at the lake in the Ville d'Avray (where they filmed "Sundays and Cybele" in the 1960s) when I made my pilgrimage there in February 2007. And don't think I didn't look for her everywhere!!! Oh well, maybe she'll be there this October 2 for my return visit. Any time from October 2 to October 5, Patricia, if you're reading this. :( :( :(

Disques Cinémusique has launched a new CD that should interest all Patricia Gozzi fans: MAURICE JARRE'S UNPUBLISHED FRENCH FILM MUSIC performed by Robert Lafond

The program reconstructs the core of four of the first scores that Maurice Jarre (1924-2009) wrote for features films in his native France. The movies are directed by Georges Franju (Spotlight on the Murderer, Judex), Serge Bourguignon (Sundays & Cybele) and Frédéric Rossif (The Animals).

Already recognized for his reconstruction of Delerue’s works, Robert Lafond again puts his great talent in the service of this other giant of film music. Produced with the most advanced sampling technology available, his versions faithfully reproduce Maurice Jarre’s melodies and original orchestrations, whether they consist of a few soloists or large symphonic ensembles, purely acoustic sounds or electronic ventures typical of the period.
