my dear friend gianni and i ran to the theatre so as not to miss the start of this film. she grew up in the south of france with the understanding that isabelle adjani was one of her country's most beautiful and respected actresses. when we left the cinema i was nuts about christophe lambert. i couldn't stop talking about 'subway.'
he went on to make lots of films i had no interest in but in this film he plays a music loving thief who sleeps below the paris metro, and he was irresistible. the 'slow dance' scene to rickie lee jones' 'lucky guy' melted me in my seat. everyone is perfectly cast in this 1985 film written and directed by luc besson. i lived this movie in my mind for a long time.
