i let my desire to read the books of jim thompson simmer for many years before actually taking the plunge. my hesitation was well founded. this guy had a very bad taste in his mouth and his characters are nothing to aspire to. that being said, his writing is pretty incredible.
in 1959 'the getaway' was published. in 1952 'the killer inside me.' it is too late for me to wish these were not made into movies. it is one thing to read about immoral behavior and another thing to see it. the films give plausibillty to characters that are truly meant to be left where their lives began.
for those who do not wish to read this down beat literature, cinema versions are piling up.
