la dolce vita
if you took a generous helping of grace, combined with generous pinches of peasant wisdom, and stirred it all with the crown of a countess to the strains of stephane grappelli, you would have nothing to eat! however, an eyeful of sophia loren kind of gives you the picture. leave the cooking to her! the italian film icon has two cookbooks that are chock full of simple mediterranean meals. this woman continues to look absolutely in the pink so i assume that she eats for health which is always a beautiful way to feast.
much as sophia has breathed her essence into the notion of worldly sophistication, it is her role in 'two women' that has left the loudest echo. the film, based on a moravia novel, is unglamorous, bleak, sad, and truly stunning.
In 1962, Loren won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Two Women, along with 21 awards, becoming the first actress to win an Academy Award for a non-English-speaking performance.
