Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskó (20 October 1882 – 16 August 1956)

when he changed his name, bela took the name of his place of birth, lugoj. bela lugosi left hungary, went to hollywood, and between 1917 and 1958 he appeared in 108 films!

i am aware of his legendary 'dracula' but it is tim burton's classic 'ed wood' that has taught me the most about lugosi. drugs loomed large in bela's life and it is true that in his later years people making movies did not know he was still alive.

one character who could have made a cameo in 'ed wood' is frank sinatra. even though they did not know one another, frank visited bela when he was in the hospital.
