he ain't heavy, he's my brother

modern day epics are not my thing. however, a story on a grand scale, in the hands of akira kurosawa pleases me no end. just in case it proves to be a rainy weekend, here is one brilliant saga to fill your mind with hope regarding good vs. evil.
piece by piece a group of samurai come together at the desperate request of a man who needs protection for his small farming village which is suffering at the hands of bandits. scene by scene we are introduced to the seven masters who are all remarkably special and entertaining. the big treat comes in the body of toshiro mifune, kurosawa's pet actor. no one can communicate a wild and lovable rascal like this guy.
the film deals with an eternal theme and the personalities of everyone involved will melt your heart and enlighten your mind. an absolute must.
