hands down, the funniest portrayal i have ever seen of a character taken from a book and brought to life on the screen has got to be peter sellers as 'clare quilty' in stanley kubrick's 'lolita.' the man is deeply hysterical. the mind game taking place at the ping pong table set up in the castle's living room between clare and the story's narrator, humbert is priceless. never has the path of doom been lined with so much laughter.

peter sellers, the king of parody. 'the best' at doing that in film in my opinion. :)
