director alfred hitchcock holds the key to film history's treasure chest of suspense. as an englishman that has made so many films in america, i think of him as one of the great american filmmakers. i take it for granted that americans know their hitchcock. surprisedly, i have met people who are not familiar with 'notorious.'

for a man who made his mark in psycho drama, alfred created the most romantic film i've ever seen. 'notorious' stars ingrid bergman and cary grant. not much more needs to be said really. these two communicate love like no one's business. throw in rio, a villian (played by the always remarkable claude rains), misunderstandings, and there you have it. a perfect hitchcock movie.
