serve the servants

i know people like to go to see the eiffel tower and eat yummy food, but paris is one place where you can see exceptional films, from all eras, playing in lovely theaters. the way paris celebrates world cinema cannot be beat.
the film, 'the servant' is a work of art with ingredients that rival french cooking. directed by joseph losey and written by harold pinter, it stars dirk bogarde, james fox, wendy craig and sarah miles. for anyone who loves british sixties movies, it is almost too much. i was a very fortunate young american to be in paris when it was playing on the big screen.
it is absolutely super in every respect. it is provocative and psychological with moody music. it is sexual and suspenseful but has nothing to do with crime. well, that depends on the definition. i guess i would call it a masterpiece.
