pluck

federico fellini, the most famous name in italian cinema, is a filmmaker you can trust. he holds you close then fills your mind with magic, turning landscapes into dreamscapes.
'nights of cabiria' is a very intimate film. even with the splendid and colorful cast, it is about one woman.
giuletta masina, the lead, was married to fellini for 50 years. wow. clearly they know how to work together. her character, 'cabiria' is very much like the character 'kitten' from the book/film 'breakfast on pluto.' they share the same livelihood, and they each possess an indomitable spirit that transcends the circumstances of their lives. interestingly, they are both shamefully revealed by way of a magician's display of hypnotism. hmm.
the year of this film was 1957. the look is earthy yet flirts with the surreal. a true joy.
