the moment for 'la mome'

one day my husband came home with a movie gift for me. all i knew about the film was that a friend of mine saw it in the theater and told me it was like getting hit in the head over and over. so, i was not exactly ripping the shrink wrap off my present. it sat around for a bit.
the moment came  to slip the disc in and sit back, trying to keep an open mind, and the sheer beauty of the film overwhelmed me from the start.
for me, sad stories are life stories. a great life can have much sadness but be great nevertheless. it is not necessary to look at the life of french singer edith piaf in terms of her tears. the spirit of this tiny person is a wonder to behold.
every once in a while an actor/actress comes along who flips out her peers. actress marion cotillard's portrayal? as they say, forget about it. the greatest actor's were wishing to co-star with her after seeing her performance in 'la vie en rose.' everything about the movie is stunning. the colors, the music, and the actresses who played the women in the brothel were great. edith as a five year old was wonderful. i was raving about it all to anyone who would listen. but you know who really got me? the actress who played the 10 year old edith. she really got me.
there is a scene where her father, an acrobat, is doing a street performance. prompted by the crowd, her father gives her a shove to sing. of course she doesn't want to, but she does. i really fell in love with her then.
the movie is full of moments you will not forget or regret. it is a very exceptional film about an amazingly strong and gifted woman. marion joins edith as they both go down in history.
