this is not exactly the story of my life. not exactly.
i grew up roaming santa monica beach in l.a. so i was thrilled to see the scenes of my childhood on the screen. when i first saw 'inside daisy clover' it was a movie of the week and i watched it every day. i completely fell in love with natalie wood and sang and danced along with her to the musical numbers. the song 'you're gonna hear from me' became my anthem.
director robert mulligan is one of my favorites. actress ruth gordon, well, she was the only person missing from my real life. robert redford is dashing and cruel but doesn't come close to the role awarded actor christopher plummer. everyone is excellent, but it is natalie wood's character as a rising star that hits home the hardest.
the story is as old as fame. the ups and downs of the game are perfectly played out in a terrific film based on gavin lambert's irresistible book.

where was i when this film came out? oops i was only three. i thought i had seen most of our dearest natalie wood's films. what a beautiful actress, child to adult without any deviation or gap in her timeless and ageless steadfast image.
