a little hokey, a little haunting, and really good. 'niagara' was the first marilyn movie i ever saw. probably my first joseph cotten too. they are totally believable as a mismatched couple trying one more time to make it work. i don't want to think of all the other places they visited, the falls is enough.
marilyn cemented her 'walk' in this film. she also was great at teasing and tormented her mentally unstable husband, played by cotten. when the sweet honeymooners next door intervene things get crazy. for them.
marilyn singing on the steps, joseph crushing a model car, the bells chiming out a secret message of love between marilyn and her boyfriend, it is all super colorful and interesting to watch. you just know it is gonna end bad.
jean peters is deadpan and so pretty as the young married. i guess 'niagara' is kind of a classic in it's way.
