coo coo cachoo

if you don't love to fly, but you do like to read, a breezy book to help you forget that you are thirty thousand miles above the earth is 'the graduate.' you'll fly through it like the plane in the sky. it is a very fun read.
in the 1967 film version of the book, director mike nichols kept the light tone but revealed the depths too.
the plot is simple: while brainy young hopeful, 'jonathan' spends his time floating in the pool, the adults are doing their best to encourage him to get on with his promising future. all of their ideas are wonderfully inappropriate.
anne bancroft is her slim, smoky, and seductive self as she initiates jonathan into the joys of a hotel room. she is most willing to meet him, whenever he likes, as long as he never ever ever lays one finger on her daughter, played by katherine ross, who is so pretty. actor dustin hoffman's career never looked back, yet this early role will always be fondly remembered. moral of the story: when all else fails, marry for love.
