winona ryder, someone not unfamiliar with a lapse of sound judgement, is responsible for the filming of the book, 'girl, interrupted', a tale of several young women sharing time in a mental institution back in the day when such a place was called that. none of them are there by choice. there is much anger.
all the praise, including what winona deserved for undertaking this project, was bestowed upon the one who played an insanely untrusting character in which angelina jolie gave an insanely great performance. these were her baby steps toward her role as the actress the world most enjoys feasting its eyes upon. in this early film you cannot not look. as, 'lisa' she is nothing short of a mechanical wind up toy forever bumping into everything with a battery that refuses to die. she's too good.
most of the film is very sad. however, there is one moment, on a days outing, when an innocent bystander's ice cream cone comes just a little too close to the girl who believes any number below ninety is the ideal weight. picture me, in a theatre, on the floor.
