TRAYLINGS (a film gets nicknamed)

one night in 1983 my musician husband called me from tour and suggested i go into town and see a movie. 'betrayal' was showing.
to be perfectly honest, after the first couple of scenes (my introduction to the genius actor jeremy irons) i was thinking, 'do i really want to watch this guy?' by scene three the answer hit me cause all of a sudden i was in love with jeremy irons. i went to see it again. i could not stop thinking about jeremy irons.
this harold pinter play is as close to a 'kitchen sink drama' as an upscale lifestyle will allow. there is even a moment when actress patricia hodge is doing the dishes. that particular scene is shot without sound. her husband, played by ben kingsley, clearly said something unkind for she puts down the sponge, walks up to him and gives him a slap across the face. then something even lousier happens. he slaps her back.
this is what people call a 'small' film. it is beautifully acted.
