natalie wood delivers the line, 'no mama, i'm not spoiled' with just enough hysteria to let you know that it may well be time she were. elia kazan's film about high school sweethearts in a midwest town during the depression contains frustrations galore. when i was a kid, 'splendor in the grass' was a t.v. movie of the week (played seven days in a row) and i watched it every day after school. it was the first film i fell in love with.
warren beatty and natalie wood are basically gorgeous high schoolers who are hopelessly in love. it's not for me to explain why.
