i can't get enough tennessee williams. when i discovered the actress anna magnani i felt that same way. there is a very popular indian woman known as 'amma' who is considered 'the hugging saint.' people travel quite far for an 'amma' hug. well, i would travel quite far too if magnani was the one making the offer. whatever 'amma' is doing for people i know 'anna' would do for me.
tennessee wrote the play,' the rose tattoo' for magnani. anna played, 'serafina', a woman so in love with her husband that she walks on tiptoe through the house if he is napping. they have a beautiful daughter and live in a humble dwelling in a very gossipy neighborhood. when the yentas show up at her house to tell her that her husband was killed in a wreck (he drove a banana truck. don't you love tennessee?) well, you can imagine. to top it off she learns he was unfaithful.
watching magnani go through what any woman would have to go through if she won't let go but must, is heaven. the academy agreed. she won the oscar. by no means an aside, burt lancaster co stars.
