to be honest, this movie is ONLY about eve. anne baxter's ruthless stage star in the making, 'eve', is such a conniving little liar that she practically transforms all in her wake into saints. bette davis included. i watched this for the hundredth time last night just to be extra ready to tread on the hallowed ground that is john mankiewicz's most revered film.
the writing is a delight. the cast is ideal for the roles. marilyn monroe does everything right in her few scenes. 'all about eve' was nominated for 14 oscars and received 6. perhaps the greatest reward of all can be had when the cool, connected, condescending theatre critic, played by george sanders, gives that little face of eve's a resounding smack.
