the 1946 drama 'the postman always rings twice' was not meant to be a comedy. quite the opposite. lust, murder, and mayhem took hold of lana turner and john garfield like no tomorrow. however, to cheer up this movie there are some 'suspension of belief' moments. this shot of them looking gorgeous occurs after they have just returned from a short walk down a dusty road. 'cora' tripped in her heels and did get her white skirt muddy, but look at them! it looks like the passing cars that declined to give them a ride ran them over.
p.s. it is the best they look in the entire film.
on another note, i am sure a catwalk model would tell me that even a short walk in high heels is rough.
