stuck in the middle with you

the only olivier i know is the super handsome angry 'heathcliff' or the charming older man from such great performances in 'brideshead revisited' and the harold pinter play, 'the collection.' i've read his life story twice and i do understand why he was considered the greatest living actor.
the other night i had a real treat. in 1962 olivier starred in 'term of trial.' he was magnificent. playing school teacher to sarah miles (her first film and she almost walked away with it) and husband to simone signoret (like romy schneider with the weight of the world) olivier was wise, weary, and willing to do whatever he had to do to keep his marriage. this is one of the best films i have seen in a long time.

photos: while watching olivier in prayer i realized that the innocent pray the hardest/the touching moments between the husband and wife were rare but no less deep for being so
