at the very first academy awards show actress Janet Gaynor took home her trophy for her work in THREE films: Seventh Heaven , Street Angel and Sunrise.
The 1st Academy Awards were presented on May 16, 1929, at a private dinner held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Tickets cost $5. they charged the stars! fewer than 250 people attended. how dare they charge! The ceremony lasted only 15 minutes. perhaps andy warhol's theory of fame had it's roots in this particular event.
as janet was married to the genius costume designer adrian, we know whose dress she wore to the main event.
