director keisuke kinoshita made fifty films. thanks to the criterion collection we are able to see one of the most tender movies called '24 eyes.' though this is a very touching story based on a children's book, as a director he was successful in all genres. he was the first director in japan to make a feature in color!
this film was selected as No. 1 film of 1954 by Kinema Junpo outshining the "Seven Samurai." praise indeed.
