some actors make us laugh and cry. when cary grant was asked who his favorite leading lady might be he answered, 'irene dunne.' he found her delightful and inventive. while watching her i forget all other actresses. i think she would have been an awesome mom.
in 1941's 'penny serenade' she too thought she'd be an awesome mom. however, fate had other plans for her and husband cary. never has the dream of a family unit been so deserved and so dashed. they are both sublime in this tearjerker. these two made several films together. imagine how happy they were each time they learned that another picture was in the works. there is much to be learned from this particular film.
