that's kinda how it seemed. in truth, scarlett johansson has been making films for a while. in 1996 she worked with the amazing actress mary kay place in a sweet/strange little scenario called 'manny and lo.' when i watched it on cable i had no idea who she was and i was mesmerized. how could such a little kid have that voice? come 'lost in translation' and we were all taken with her.
this movie is joyful for the fact of the players. mary kay, as the kidnapped nurse, is super. scarlett (manny) and her punked and pregnant sibling (lo, played by aleska palladino) were convincing in this unusual slice of real life.
