mr. and mrs. dorleac had two daughters who both became actresses. not wishing to confuse the public one of them chose to go by the mother's maiden name. this younger of the two called herself catherine deneuve while her sister was known as francoise dorleac. the astonishing beauty of these actresses takes your breath away. in her mid twenties, francoise died in a tragic car accident. her younger sister went on to be the single most celebrated french actress since bardot. i have seen many of catherine's films but it was only recently that i watched roman polanski's 'cul de sac', starring her sister. it is a very beautifully filmed black and white that is stark and menacing. francoise plays half of a couple who live in a very isolated home by the sea, getting up to nonsense like her dressing him up in her clothes, when a stranger comes knocking. psychological themes aside, it was all about dorleac. she is so beautiful that all i could do to honor her tragically short life was cut bangs.
