where there's life....
happy earth day to everyone. in 1945 elia kazan, director sublime, filmed 'a tree grows in brooklyn.' this is a down to earth story of a poor family dealing with everyday strife in williamsburg, brooklyn. yes, that neighborhood has changed radically and so have some of the problems people deal with.
peggy ann garner was perfectly cast as the young daughter of loving parents who worked respectively as a domestic and a singing waiter. alcohol, paupery, and dreams of change bring this lovely black and white film to life. i feel sure that every young person has serious issues to deal with, in the home or in the world. it is important to remember that disappointment and dreams will always be a part of life on earth. how we keep our heads clear and hopes high will forever be what defines one's character. as has been made clear, over and again, 'character is destiny.'
happy earth day to everyone.
