unbeatable

the true life character louisa trotter, irascible hotelier of the bbc series 'the duchess of duke street' is an extraordinary individual. the tale of her ascendance from scullery maid to the greatest chef in london is undiluted delight. the actress gemma jones is surely having an illustrious career but a role like this comes once in a lifetime.
this 1976 production takes you on a journey through her ups and downs, ins and outs, of high society between the years 1900-1925.
the prince of wales fell for and befriended her. their relationship, though short lived, provided her with the means to re-establish a hotel that was in shambles but possessed a very good address.
all the characters will live on in your memory for their uniqueness and charm. the actor christopher cazenove had the honor of playing her life long love, lord hazelmere. in spite of his being a bit of a lost soul, he is just about the best sort of person. plus, cazenove is a knockout.
you will fall in love with them all.
1620 minutes of joy.
