treat her right

this sort of thing doesn't happen so much now: shipping your dead wife's sister over to take her place in the home. well, leave it to the magnificent magnani to breathe desire and devotion into her lamentable situation. anthony quinn can certainly throw his weight around but in the film, 'wild is the wind' he holds on to his ego and is believable. believably clueless.
johnny mathis sang the gorgeous title song in this 1957 superdrama. in time this song would be given beautiful renditions by the divine nina simone and the brave david bowie.
conventional beauty may turn a man's head for awhile but when it comes to permanent rearrangement of a man's view, anna magnani, in her tempestuous yet humble way, can hold the attention as long as her fellow italian sophia. maybe it's the wine or the water or the age old wisdom of the italian mama.
