no song and dance

i imagine the oscars went something like this: beautiful gowns, courteous waves to the crowds assembled outside, a grateful thank you when the award was received, and a goodnight to all. it must have been so nice and simple.
in 1930 norma shearer was voted best actress for her performance in 'the divorcee.' her role as 'jerry' must have flipped a few lids, including her husband in the film.
the double standard gets a beautiful treatment here thanks to such a winning cast. put robert montgomery in anything and it elevates. even though everyone is super, it is norma's baby. as 'jerry' she is blissfully married till her husband tells her, just before taking off on a short business trip, that his recent infidelity meant nothing. before his return she tests his words by spending the night with mutual friend montgomery.
will she tell her husband? does it really not mean anything? truth and consequences ensue.
norma's costumes are as desirable now as they were then. adrian was the genius who truly designed with her best interest at heart. i trust she wore one of his exquisite dresses when she walked off with her award.

wow! my wish for 2009 is to have the opportunity to kiss in the new year, 2010, with ms. shearer at that moment in time! she looks like a lot of fun to laugh with and get in trouble with.... then.....a new year's kiss after all the adventures...swak and xxoxox. she is so full of life!
