a couple of kooks

he loved guns. she was crazy. bingo.
i can't know what the audience made of this love story when it hit the big screen in 1950 but it had to be a shocker. i mean, peggy cummins is just so petite and darling and there she is, firing her pistol in a carnival act like she means serious business. when she challenges someone from the crowd to match her wits, well, it is the perfect invite to actor john hall, a gun freak since childhood. one difference: he doesn't like killing.
as their 'meant to be' love lights up the screen we can sort of see it all coming. their undoing is stuff of which noir pictures are made.
this is unadulterated delight meets doom.

how bohemian and slick. a sublime overture of antiquated values versus the rebirth of post cold war liberation. doom meets delight.
