his brilliant career

before the talkies charlie chaplin directed over 50 films. a genius in life as well as cinema, he settled in switzerland and had many children with his wife oona o-neil, making less than 20 films in later years.
one of his most beautiful is 'limelight', the sad and tender story of a young ballerina and her relationship with an aging vaudevillian. claire bloom is stunning as 'calvero's' (chaplin) muse. youth, heartbreak, appreciation and love, all delivered by the inimitable comedian who could bring tears to the driest eyes.
chaplin's thoughtful inclusion of buster keaton (who was not getting work) is exactly what this filmmaking giant would do. an exquisite movie experience.
