a collaboration made in heaven

my cousin loves to let me know that jane austen gets more popular as time goes on. it gives him hope for the world. there is no denying her gift as a supreme novelist. her stories of good/bad men and women navigating their ways through society and propriety are unparalleled and i have a feeling that since its release, every production, big and small screen, will hold itself up to the 1995 cinematic splendor of 'sense and sensibility.'
emma thompson has a truly engaging quality as an actress and when she took it upon herself to write the screenplay for this knock out film she was treading deep. after all, the mighty jane.
the simple story of getting the girls well situated in marriages appropriate to their natures is perfectly cast. emma and kate winslet as the sisters, gemma jones as their mom, hugh grant and alan rickman as the men who win their respective hands.
all the actors excel in their roles. the unhappy 'willoughby' and stingy 'fanny' are really good but the sisters rule.
this was my introduction to kate winslet. she won my interest for good.

both embodied the 'heavenly creatures' in diverse roles they have acted upon in films.
