breathtaking (and border collies!)

here he comes again, the amazing filmmaker john schlesinger. when i first saw 'far from the madding crowd' i cried my little heart out. i fell completely in love with the character played by actor terrence stamp. he was simply too beautiful.
so is this entire film. i am amazed how all the splendor of the english countryside can be so well captured. every scene sweeps you up in its arms and carries you off into the story of 'bathsheba', the lovely heroine of thomas hardy's 1874 novel. by 1967, when this film was made, the girl of the times was my fave julie christie, and as the tiny inheritor of a lovely farm, she soon enough finds herself with three suitors, all very different. the actors: the rich man/peter finch. the handsome soldier/terrence stamp. the truly good gabriel/alan bates.
everyone is splendid. this epic film leaves the world, as you know it, behind.

photos: terry and julie. alan bates (fear not, he saves many sheep in this). collie.

border collies and aussies are the loyal sentry's of dogdom, always keeping one eye open at all times. graceful and agile and true blue to their adopted human family members, who they adore! and just want to please.
testimonial: i had three aussies and they were the most intuitive dogs i have every experienced.
