small/big city blues

sam and fran have spent their married life in a small city. while fran raised their daughter, sam became the very wealthy owner of a automobile plant. now it's time to step away from the 9 to 5 and discover all they've been missing. they set sail for europe, feeling like it is their first real honeymoon, but once fran starts making new acquaintances....
long before there was john and his daughter angelica huston, there was john's dad walter, an actor that represents the 'everyman' better than any other. he is excellent in everything but his role in 1936's 'dodsworth' is the one i return to.
this movie is deeply satisfying. it is stylish, sincere, and provocative. for all who adore mary astor, this is gonna make you very happy. she is gorgeous and wears great clothes. ruth chatterton plays the restless auto giant's wife. she too gets to wear beautiful dresses. this really is a perfect movie.

so glad you define this sincere, provocative and stylish, have not seen but again, add to the 'list'... lyric: open your mouth big city. p.s.

our dearest, mary astor, cross dresses and spanks her character into a fervor. circa: the 1948 film, act of violence.
