remake remodel

'brighton rock' is grahame greene's novel about a pathetic pipsqueak gone bad. it is fantastic. judging from the stills alone, the film versions (1947 and 2010) differ greatly. it reminds me of the expression 'you can never go home again.' why oh why must greatness be improved upon?

richard attenborough had fear nesting in his eyes like fledglings about to take their first flight. sam riley does not look scared. end of complaint.

this is one heck of a swimsuit.

greatness

“The most precious things in speech are pauses”-ralph richardson, a man after harold pinter's heart.

iconic

the inimitable cher began her acting career in 1967 in an episode of 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' not bad. personally, i was in love with david mccallum. cher's latest role will be the voice of a giraffe. if that sounded snide it was unintentional.

Cherilyn Sarkisian is a name few people may know but once she became cher her fame just kept on growing. she has 18 film credits and 53 soundtrack credits. i think she is a terrific actress and whenever i hear one of her songs on the radio i always ask myself the same question: why do people say she can't sing?

aside from tons of talent and decades of work, cher has kids, wigs, and hundreds of millions of dollars. party!

grappling garbo

'inspiration' (1931) with robert montgomery, an absolute darlin'.

anything's possible

if there is one thing cillian murphy likes to do it's blur the lines. tampering with the preconceived notion of 'normal' seems to be a great motivator when choosing roles. maybe it's the eyes.
he has a handful of films in various states of production. for those who only know of his participation in 'inception' there's plenty to enjoy both past and future, two states of being he seems interested in navigating.

here's cillian and his twin from another dimension, model kim noorda.

getting to know yourself

always happy to bring you down! i love cassavetes so much that i named a record after one of his films. even if having a witness by your side is desired, i believe a cassavetes film is best watched alone. just you, john, the existential angst, and the glorious beauty of his wife, actress gena rowlands, to help the medicine go down easier.

furry friend

nothin' like getting nuzzled by a fawn. audrey would know.

here, there, and everywhere

the same person who turned me on to the band 'pedro the lion' gave me a copy of 'brokeback mountain.' in both cases, i had no interest. after 6 repeated plays of ' Priests and Paramedics' i softened cause that song is fantastic.
so, i sat down to watch a movie i did not really wish to see (i did that with 'the station agent' and really liked that one) and there was heath.
i think this is the movie people love the most from him. he was lovely in this role and i realize the film itself was important and beautiful. i also know that actress abbie cornish owned another heath ledger film called 'candy' whereby you can watch a version of heath that may ring more true. it matters not. what remains is the memory of the belief in a sweetheart of a guy.
