when the incredibly cool and successful hollywood film producer robert evans learned that his wife ali mcgraw was going to star opposite steve mcqueen in 'the getaway' he knew he had much to be concerned about. his fears were well grounded. after the film was completed steve and ali walked (motorcycled) into the sunset together. eventually ali walked away from movies too. she is a mom, sun lover and yogi.

no contest

there have been many leading men that make one's heart leap. there are sure to be more. some people just have that certain something that jumps off the screen and right into your veins, right? of all the dream boats there is one in a class all his own. take a look at the way this man relates to a woman on camera and you will see what i mean. mcqueen is king.

'the shrimp'

with the exception of veruschka and twiggy, it is not that easy to squeeze a fashion model into a posting. i adore models from the sixties and the bona fide cherry on top of all things british swinging sixties was jean shrimpton. she was kinda the forerunner to kate moss. she was engaged to the 'it' photographer david bailey (gorgeous guy) who they say the film 'blow up' is based on and she was older sister to chrissie, another model who was mick's girlfriend. well, petite jean graced countless mags and infused zillions of teenage dreams of being a fashion model. in 1967 she actually starred in a film called 'privilege.' she retired to the countryside and opened a hotel.

i recently saw 'royal flash', the 1975 zany adventure film that followed the exploits of a young man surviving great odds among lords and ladies and different periods of history. i think. it is truly a dizzying film. based on a popular english book 'flashman' (or many of them) it stars malcolm mcdowell, alan bates, and oliver reed. it was directed by the beatles director richard lester. for just a small amount of screen time the actress britt ekland appeared. she was so astonishingly beautiful i just laughed. she was perfectly cast in a film that had me shaking my head the whole time.

here i was, acknowledging the great filmmaker john cassavetes. now i see that, unbeknownst to me, i was stealing a little thunder from brigitte bardot.

transition

meg tilly is one of those actresses that lots of us really adore. her eyes, her strength, her fragility, and all those beauty marks. she is just so lovely. she grew up a ballet dancer who suffered an injury while dancing. this led to her pursuit of acting. eventually motherhood and writing won her heart and she now has four published books. i just ordered one and will let you know.

post revisited

i recently did a post on an amazing fainting moment in hitchcock's 'suspicion.' while playing scrabble, joan fontaine assembles the letters which spell 'murder' and immediately falls in a gorgeous velvet heap to the floor. the photo i took was not very good but i just found another image which offers a better illustration.
